- Small Bore Sized Sewerage System -& Sewage treatment

This technology is a cost effective sustainable technology:
-Designed to receive only the liquid portion of household waste water .
-Troublesome solids are retained in Intercepting chamber installed upstream of every house connection to sewer.
-Syphonic system incorporated for flushing of sewers.
-Requires less velocity for flow of waste water and reduced flow requirements.
-HDPE Pipe of 90mm to 180 mm outer dia serve as sewer pipes.
-No manholes.
-Sewer is laid at shallow depth.
-Can negotiate small chages in Vertical/Horizontal alignment.
DRDP, Govt. of Punjab has launched an ambitious project to replicate the technology in 250 villages that are ready to bear 25% of capital investment and own for its Operation and Maintenance.

- Treatment of brackish water - Reverse Osmosis(RO)

In most of the southern Districts of Punjab, underground water is unfit for human consumption as it contains total dissolved solids (TDS) in the range of 15000-35000 mg/litre. Whereas as per BIS standards drinking water should have TDS in the range of 0-500 mg/ ltr. The problem of brackish water has affected around 85 lac population residing in 5830 villages mainly in southern districts of Punjab.
Consumption of brackish water is a major cause of spotting and discoloration of teeth due to excessive dose of fluoride (>1.0 mg/l); kidney and lever failure; crippling of bones; increased soap consumption and staining of fabric.
RO has been adjudge the best technology because of low energy and operating cost, excellent water quality, operator friendly, compact, versatile and modular design.

- Bio-Management of Sullage Ponds

Ponds constitute major area of wetlands in Punjab as these occupied more than 25000 acres earlier.Several factors are contributing to the degradation of water quality of ponds .Some of the major factors contributing to pollution problems of these ponds are :
1)Indiscriminate discharge of sullage/sewage.
2)Encroachments for buliding habitats.
3)Run off from the cattle dung dumps around the ponds.
4)Growth of aquatic weeds due to nutrient enrichment
Two technologies have been successfully demostrated by PSCST for the bio-management of sullage ponds.
1)Duckweed Technology :The duckweed based waste water treatment sustem in conjunction with pisciculture has the potential of offering effective waste water treatment besides providing economic returns as well as generating employment opportunities in the rural areas.
2)Constructed Wetland Technology:Surface flow constructed wetlands are low cost shallow ponds wherein water flows over the land planted with emergent, rooted vegetation adapted to the local environment.

- Solid Waste Management - Vermiculture Biotechnology

This technology denotes the use of earthworms as versatile natural bioreactors for efficient biodegradation of organic solid wastes. The earthworms ensure bio-conversion of waste into a rich manure within 40-45 days under complete aerobic conditions.
