Neelima Jerath, Ph.D., Double Gold Medalist, Specialization in Ecology and Environmental Science. Diploma in Management. Trained at International Centre for Conservation Education, UK on Environment Education and Smithsonian Institution, USA on Environment Leadership. Recipient of Punjab State Award (1999) for work in Environment, Award of Honour for Environment Education and Awareness, State Farms Corporation Award and Women of the Year Award. Traveled worldwide. Worked as Asia Nodal Officer for UNESCO’s project on ‘Integrating Environment Policy, Education in Technical & Vocational Education’. Working on Environment Education and Training, Biodiversity Conservation and IPR issues. Was Associate Editor of Indian Journal of Ecology for 3 years and has authored / edited 16 Books, 1 Educational Kit, 1 Directory, 5 Reports, 4 Booklets, 36 research papers and over 50 articles, abstracts, educational posters (for UNESCO), etc.

ENVIRONMENT

Satnam Singh Ladhar Ph.D. (Toxicology), Joint Director (Environment).  (specialization in Agriculture), Present assignments include National Environment Awareness Campaign, management of solid waste and implementation of National Green Corps Programme.  Implemented UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme on awareness and capacity building at Ramsar wetlands in Punjab  and National Wetlands Conservation Programme in Punjab. Advisory Member and life Member of various National and International Associations on Environment and wetlands. Authored/edited ten books and 27 research papers, review articles and chapters in books on different aspects of forest ecology, environment and toxicology. Organized a number of workshops, seminars & trainings and participated in various International and national workshops, conferences and trainings.

S.K. Saxena, Ph.D; Principal Scientific Officer (Environment). Present assignments include coordination of scheme 'National wetlands Conservation Programme' sponsored by MEF, GOI in the state, promotion of community awareness on wetlands, livelihood issues, celebration of World Wetlands Day,   R & D requirements of Industries. Authored/edited five books and more than 20 research publications/ articles on various environment issues.

Gurharminder Singh: Senior Scientific Officer (Environment) & Incharge (PIC & IPFC); M.Sc. (Agri.) Hons., Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application and Diploma in Software Technology (Govt. of India).  Working on agricultural and water related issues of State, UNESCO Projects. Assisting Member Secretary, Punjab Biodiversity Board (PBB) for works related to PBB and other biodiversity related projects. Preeti Arora, Ph.D; Project Associate and a registered Patent agent. Undertook training under the women scientist scholarship scheme (WOS-C) in field of Intellectual Property Rights. CSIR-UGC NET (Life Sciences) and GATE (Life Sciences) qualified. Authored 2 scientific papers. Awarded First prize in poster presentation in national seminar on Technical Advances in Environment Management and applied Zoology held in Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Attended one international conference, two national conferences, two national symposium and four workshops. Jatinder Kaur Arora, Ph.D; Additional Director (Biotechnology). Trained on management & policy issues in biotechnology at Malaysia by International Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR) and on Biosafety issues by NBPGR. Worked as technical resource person for UNESCO for the development of educational material for developing countries on fundamentals and applications of biotechnology. Listed in Asia/Pacific Who’s Who (Vol.V). University Gold Medalist. Developed fungal/microbial consortium for biodegradation of commercial textile dye effluents. 6 years post doctoral experience in the field of Medical Biotechnology in the sphere of microbial molecular diagnostics & molecular characterization at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Worked as Senior Research Analyst and as Consultant for US based Cos. in the areas of Pharma / Biotech patenting. Authored 6 international publications in esteemed journals. Currently engaged in project entitled "Production and Promotion of Neem based Pesticides as Environmental Friendly alternative to Chemical Pesticides".

Has done research on “Production of carotenoids as food colorants from natural sources “at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry. Qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) from Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board. Member of Association of Food Scientists and Technologists. Has been trained on Food Quality, Food Safety & GMP aligned with HACCP systems. Participated and presented paper in Seventh International Symposium on Temperate Zone Fruits in the Tropics & Subtropics. Four years rich experience in the field of Processing and value addition of Horticultural crops. Worked as State Head Quality Assurance, State Manager for New Product Development in Reliance Industries Ltd. and Production & QC Manager, R & D Head in Hygeia F& V Processors Pvt. ltd. Authored 6 publications in National & International journals/books. Currently engaged in Identification, formulation, monitoring and evaluation of projects in various areas of Biotechnology in the state.

POPULARIZATION OF SCIENCE

Neelam Gulati Sharma, Ph.D; Additional Director (Popularization of Science). Carried out research in Biophysics on ‘Study of trace elements in skin tumorigenesis with special reference to selenium using neutron activation & radiotrace techniques’ at Punjab university, Chandigarh. 2nd position in order of merit. Recipient of UGC & CSIR fellowships. After a stint at NIS, as Junior Research Officer, joined PSCST in 1988. Credited with bringing the prestigious ‘Pushpa Gujral Science City project to Punjab. Currently implementing various short and long term science popularization projects including National Science Day, National Technology Day, and Motivational Programme for talented students. Handled GOI projects like International year of physics, year of Scientific Awareness, International Year of Planet Earth, Transit of Venus, Rise of Modern Indian Science, Total Solar Eclipse, and International Year of Astronomy & Improvement of Science teaching through the use of Low Cost teaching aids. Developed a website for GOI,  www.understandingplanetearth.in . Co edited 5 books and authored 11 research papers and 15 popular science articles. Long term projects like documentation of traditional Agricultural practices, Location specific problems requiring S & T international in Punjab. Creating awareness about application of Geo-informatics for local problem solving. Co-editor of Future Frontier & Nirantar Soach. Recipient of Punjab State Award 2007.

 Kulbir Singh Bath, Ph.D.; Principal Scientific Officer (Popularization of Science). Carried out research on the Aquatic Ecosystem of Punjab and Limnology of Harike wetland ecosystem in Punjabi University, Patiala. Recipient of Merit Scholarship in Graduation, ZOOTOP medal of Punjabi University and Post- Doctorate Research Associateship of CSIR. Has authored 32 research papers, 15 articles and co-edited 7 books & compiled many scientific reports, project reports, annual reports . Currently implementing schemes/ projects/ programmes of Popularization of Science  including organization of workshops, lectures, meetings etc. for teachers, students & general public. Current interest includes setting up of Science Communication Centers and Compilation of History of Science & Technology in Punjab. Completed/ implemented important projects such as Database of R & D Institutes, Location Specific Problems Requiring S & T Intervention in Punjab, R & D Requirements of Industries in Punjab and Chandigarh, Year of Planet Earth, Root & Shoot, Eco-water Literacy campaign, Science & Sanitation programs etc. State coordinator of Punjab for Children Science Congress. Co-editing quarterly Newsletter ‘Future Frontiers‘ & monthly popular science magazine  ‘Nirantar Soach’.

Pardeep Garg, B.E. (Civil), M.E. (Env.) Hons. Certified Energy Auditor from Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Principal Scientific Officer. Seventeen years of experience mainly in the filed of industrial pollution control. Has undertaken projects for evolving national emission standards for induction & arc furnaces, design of CETPs for vegetable tanning units and metal finishing units, design of energy efficient cupola furnace etc. Trained in “Advanced Waste Water Treatment” under the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS)” sponsored by New Energy & Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Japan. Specialised in design of air pollution control devices for foundries (induction and cupola), design of low cost technologies for sewage treatment, design of waste water treatment plants for par-boiled rice mills and municipal solid waste management. Technical inputs were given in the projects, “Cleaning of Budha Nallah” & “Restoration of Ecology of Holy Bein”.
