1. Integrated Rural Development (IRDP)
Small bore size sewerage system and sewage treatment programme
The Council has evolved an innovative technology for laying of sewerage system in villages in which one set of small diameter PVC/HDPE pipes are laid at shallow depths. The salient features of the technology are :
-
Small bore sized pipes of 4”-6” dia are used as compared to 8”-24” dia used in conventional system.
-
Pipes are laid at shallow depths of 2’-4’ as compared to 3-4 meters in the conventional system at the end.
-
Sullage from individual houses is passed through siphonic system before connecting to the main sewers.
-
The automatic flushing of the siphon system ensures self cleansing of the sewers which avoids any blockages
-
Sludge is settled in sedimentation chambers.
-
One set of small diameter PVC/HDPE pipe is used to convey the sullage along with the solids from the toilets to a common treatment site.
-
The waste, once collected and conveyed to the end point, would be treated by duckweed/constructed wetland technology.
The Council has demonstrated the technology in village Madhopur and is presently working to demonstrate it in two more villages viz Alisher, Distt. Sangrur and Ulana, Distt. Patiala under IRDP programme funded by Deptt. of Rural Development & Panchayats. Contact persons : Er. M.S.Jaggi ; ms_jaggi@pscst.com
