3.2. PICKLING UNITS

The Cell has demonstrated the recovery of saleable ferrous sulphate from discarded pickling effluents.

Salient features of technology

• Effluents reduced considerably:

  • By adoption of Drag-out/Reduction techniques
  • Provision of nozzle in front of Rinsing pipe.
  • Use of Inhibitors/Foaming agents for fumes reduction.
• Cost of equipment : Rs.75,000/-
• Ferrous sulphate recovered: : 2 to 2.5 tonnes/month
• Sale price : Rs.4000-6000/- per tonne
• Pay back period : 2 years
• Use of Ferrous Sulphate : Soil conditioner

Two enterprises have set up CETP for managing pickling waste.
