3.3. VEGETABLE TANNING UNITS

CETP Tannery

There are 40 tannery units located in cluster in Ramdaspura locality in Phillaur, Distt Jalandhar. The processes involved during tanning are soaking, liming, dehairing and defleshing, deliming, dyeing and vegetable bag tanning. The process were studied in detail and the following process optimizing measures were suggested.

  • Dedusting of salted hides.
  • Improved soaking.
  • Better house keeping

Exhaustive studies were carried out w.r.t. qualitative and quantitative analysis. The units were tiny, managed by meager funds and were thus not able to afford individual ETP. The CC proposed to install a CETP based on two stage biological treatment. It contains an anaerobic filter followed by aeration. The same has been successfully installed and performance studies are underway presently.

A special feature of this CETP is the transportation of effluent through a tanker at the common site of treatment.
