3.4. SAILA PLANTS
There are about 1000 saila plants in the State of Punjab and Haryana. The capacity of these plants vary from1-4 tones/ day. The process involves pre cleaning, soaking, steaming, drying and milling. The source of water pollution is soaking process. On an average a unit discharges 60-80 kld of wastewater with BOD load of 2500-4000 mg/l. The CC has developed a cost effective technology based on two stage biological treatment for treating the saila plant effluents. The ETP consists of anaerobic filter followed by aeration. The treated effluent will achieve the BOD level of less than 30 mg/l as prescribed by the State Pollution Control Boards.
