16. Project entitled “Human resource
development and capacity building through development of target
specific resource material and training for protection,
conservation and restoration of wetlands in Punjab( India)”
Major achievements are as follows:
Training programs were very
successful for capacity building of NGOs and teachers
specifically who then through awareness camps in
villages sensitized masses /stakeholders to protect
wetlands.
Resource material developed such
as interactive multimedia CD, Table calendar, Planner
and posters on each wetlands which have long term
usage created visible impacts on students as they
started several activities such as competitions,
school wetlands, exposure visits, artificial nests,
bird watching and biodiversity studies.
The project also addressed wise
use concept and livelihood issues linked with wetlands
conservation such as organic farming, growing of
aquatic crops, weed utilization, etc.
The community was also apprised
of need of water conservation through use of drip
irrigation, rain water harvesting and cleaning and
restoration of village ponds etc.
Innovative Action programs such
as school wetlands, resource mapping, hand paper from
water hyacinth weed were attempted involving community
and students.
Networking among wetlands
conservation agencies, educational institutions,
researchers, NGOs and local people which will help in
sustainable development.
