Modules on 'Investigate Pollution’ & ‘Noise Pollution’ for Secondary School Teachers
UNESCO, Paris has developed a resource kit containing 15 to 20 modules on specific topics to encourage an integrated inter-disciplinary approach for science education in developing countries. PSCST has prepared two modules on environmental issues on ‘Investigate Pollution’ & ‘Noise Pollution’ for the kit. The kit is to be used by secondary school teachers in developing countries. Both the modules contain background information on the subject, followed by interesting activities which could be carried out by students with the help of their teachers. Preparation of Directory of Institutions & Experts working in the area of S&T, Environment & Livelihood Education in 5 South Asian countries
The Directory has been prepared with 1464 entries in collaboration with nodal institutions from the partner countries (Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal & India). It includes brief information of GOs & NGOs working in the above areas along with contact details. Both, a CD and a hard copy have been prepared and passed on to UNESCO and the nodal institutions.
To make the Directory user-friendly, a software has also been developed with CICST. The software provides country-wise & activity-wise search facility and can work both, on-line, as well as, off-line on internet and stand-alone systems. A CD of the software along with source code has been submitted to UNESCO which proposes to put the directory on its website.
Publication of Posters on Science, Technology & Environment Literacy
PSCST has prepared a set of six posters in English for use by teachers in secondary schools in developing countries on the following topics:
- S&T Literacy
- Doorway to Science
- Search is Research
- Pollution
- Biodiversity
- Waste Recycling
The posters provide brief information on each topic and are pictorially rich. These have been widely appreciated and UNESCO now proposes to publish 30,000 copies in French, Spanish & Arabic for global distribution.
