8. Essay, Poster & Declamation Contest on Environment

The one year project was taken up in 1992 by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology with State Institute of Science Education, Punjab to provide thrust to non-formal Environmental education in Punjab amongst rural and urban school children and to promote activity oriented participatory method of interaction with children so that they are motivated to gain knowledge of various aspects of environment and develop spirit of voluntary participation. 14 District level competitions were organised with the help of DCs, DEOs and District Science Supervisors and State Institute of Science Education in the month of November/December, 1992. Two Essay competitions for primary and middle school children and 1 poster competition for middle school children in each district were organised. Participation of rural and urban students of Govt., recognized and affiliated schools was ensured through press advertisement and Distt. Administration. The first 3 prize winners were invited to participate in the State Level Competition held at Chandigarh on 19.1.93. In all, 90 students accompanied by 51 teachers and 7 District Science Supervisors participated at the State Level Competition.
