Integrating EE in Technical & Vocational Education in Asia
To promote environment issues in Technical & Vocational Education, UNESCO has taken up a project in Asia, Latin America & Africa on ‘Integrating EE in TVE.’ PSCST has been identified as the Asia Coordinator. The council has collaborated with the following organizations in this regard:
-
Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences, China
-
Technical Education Department, Ministry of Education, Malaysia
-
Western Visayas College of Science & Technology, Philippines
-
Technical Education Development Centre, Indonesia
The project assesses existing status of EE in Technical & Vocational Education Curriculum at lower secondary and senior secondary level covering both, Certificate & Diploma courses. Country reports on the Status of EE in TVE in the above countries have been prepared by the respective nodal agencies. PSCST has prepared the country report for India. This includes vocational education provided by NCERT at school level, certificate courses offered by ITIs under Craftsman Training Program and Apprenticeship Training Program and Diploma courses offered by Polytechnics in India. The existing curriculum has been reviewed with respect to EE inputs.
PSCST has consolidated the National Reports and prepared a Regional Report for Asia and sample curriculum based on feed back received from the partner countries.
As a follow up, an International Workshop was organized with the sponsorship of UNESCO, Paris from 3rd to 5th September, 2003 at Chandigarh. The major objectives of the workshop were to discuss the draft Asia report, exchange information on good practices adopted by each country, identify examples for emulation and initiate appropriate actions.
The project details were also discussed at “International Forum for Education for Sustainable Development” held at Beijing China by Joint Director (Environment) and feed back obtained.
The report is under finalization by UNESCO. UNESCO proposes to produce common resource material for Asia in the second phase of the project.
