2. Setting up of District Science Centres and School Science Corners
Council has taken initiative to set up District Science Centres in 12 schools (4 schools each of Distt. Patiala, Ropar and Ludhiana ). This was a joint programme of Govt. of Punjab in association with National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata on 50:50 share basis. Under this programme, selected science teachers of the State were trained at Kolkata and given core support in the form of science kits, tools, posters, charts, films, slide projectors etc. This programme adopted the method of ‘learning by doing’ and is a activity oriented permanent setup. So far, Govt. of Punjab has released Rs. 2.0 lacs for this programme.
To improve the standard of science education at middle level in rural schools, the Council has also set up School Science Corners with financial help from Govt. of Punjab. Under this, an activity oriented science laboratory has been set up. The school science corners have also been given finance to purchase kits, toys. exhibits, books on science in English & Punjabi. The science corners have been setup in 6 schools of districts Ropar, Jallandhar, Kapurthala & Nawanshahar.
