6. Natural Resource Survey for Integrated Development using Remote Sensing Technology in District Mansa, Punjab

The objectives of the project were :

  1. To prepare thematic maps viz. soils, geomorphology, ground water quality, land use, settlement and transport network and resource constraints at 1:50000 scale using remote sensing and other collateral data.
  2. To integrate thematic information for the preparation of resource constraint map and generation of locale-specific action plan for the management of problematic areas (salt affected, water logged, sand dunes etc.) for the district with block as a unit.
  3. To generate data base for natural resources (soil, ground water and land use), socio, economic conditions and infrastructural facilities and draw up strategies for the Govt. and non-govt. organizations for the implementation of action plan in consultation with various executing agencies at State and district level.
The project was implemented in association with Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, PAU-Ludhiana. Various thematic maps were prepared at 1:50000 scale. The thematic maps were integrated in GIS environment to prepare an action plan for the management of natural resources of the district. Copies and report containing action plan was given to district administration for making use in their day-to-day works. Digital database of natural resources was also prepared for the district. The district administration is planning to make use of these digital database after procuring hardware and software in association with Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PUNSEN), PAU-Ludhiana.
