1. Problem of selenium toxicity in soils, water, crops & their effects on human & animal health in Nawanshahr & Hoshiarpur districts of Punjab
Some villages of Nawanshahr & Hoshiarpur districts are suffering from the selenium problem and high concentration of selenium has been observed in the soils, water & crops. PSCST, in association with PAU-Ludhiana, brought out a status paper on “Selenium toxicity in Punjab”. Thereafter, a brain-storming session was held on 29.4.2003 where the representatives of research organizations, State Govt. departments, Central Govt. organizations were invited for deliberations. An action plan was finalized wherein immediate short & long term measures were recommended. These recommendations are being implemented by the concerned departments/institutions.
