4. EMCB-ENVIS Node on Water Resource Management

The MoEF, in collaboration with UNDP, had initiated Sustainable Development Network Programme (SDNP) to set up information nodes on specific areas related to environment and development. Each node developed and maintained interactive web sites on specific topics assigned to them. A node on Water Resource Management was set up in PSCST under the Program. The project has now been adopted by World Bank under Environment Management Capacity Building (EMCB) - Environment Information System (ENVIS) - Technical Assistance Program (TAP).

A Bilingual web site (in English and Punjabi) has been launched on the assigned subject area and can be accessed at www.water-mgmt.com. The website provides information on existing water resource data of the country with special reference to the northern region, especially Punjab. Information on water conservation issues, technologies, management strategies, policies, and major success stories has been provided on the web site for use by policy makers, planners, development departments, NGOs as well as general public. The site also provides links to other related sites and information on institutions & experts working in the area. Water related news items & events are regularly updated. The site also provides a query response system. The site is currently being merged with Govt. of India website www.punenvis.nic.in .
